Facilities


The International School of Ahafo is a purpose-built, single storey school located on the Mensah Kumta Village (MKV) compound. Primary and Secondary students share the iSA campus facilities.

School Environment: The school is serene and has a countryside feel. It is housed in a purpose-built complex, nestled within the Senior Staff residence compound of Newmont Ghana’s Ahafo mine, also referred to as MKV. It has an open courtyard design and offers a secure learning environment including good academic, sporting and recreational facilities.

School Library: We believe the adage, ‘Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders’ and consistent efforts are made to develop children’s reading habits. The library is the central hub of the school. It is well-stocked with a wide range of books and is well-equipped to support and facilitate teaching and learning. The library also provides a variety of books for leisure reading.

State-of-the-Art Classrooms: Classrooms on the west and east wings are spacious and are connected by covered walkways. All classrooms have air-conditioners and projectors or LED screens for use with laptops. PCs are available for whole-class use. All classrooms are fitted with blinds.

Science: We have a well-equipped Science laboratory suitable for Primary and Lower Secondary classes. Students have many opportunities to perform hands-on experiments and investigations in Science.

ICT: We have a state-of-the-art computer lab that is accessible to students, faculty and staff and is used for whole-class teaching. The lab is equipped with a printer, high-tech computers which are networked with advanced configuration and high-speed broadband internet connectivity.

Music: Music is said to be the 'universal language ' of the world. The school can boast of a well-resourced music room and a qualified Music teacher. We encourage children’s exposure to music and dance.

Art: Art is everywhere and the art room allows for the teaching of divergent and creative thinking skills. The art room is well-resourced with specialist materials and has work tables, display and storage spaces, sinks, among others.

Sports: The school’s sporting facilities include a basketball court, two football fields, cricket nets, Volleyball nets, Squash court and Tennis court, all located within MKV. We have two PE lessons per week.

 Swimming: The school uses the 25m MKV swimming pool also has a large beginner’s shallow pool. We have two swimming lessons per week. The swimming instructors are trained.

Play and Break: Outside, there is a large jungle gym, monkey bar  and a climbing frame for younger children to play, climb, hang, sit, and slide on. To reduce the risk of injury from falls, our jungle-gym area has a thick layer of sea sand to absorb the impact of falling. There is a variety of activities children can engage in at breaktime. There is also a designated area to eat snack.

Forecourt: We have a covered forecourt which can be used for assemblies, events, parent meetings and play time.

Sick Bay: We have a fully equipped Sick Bay. Staff are trained in Basic First Aid and the Clinic is available for advice and referral, when necessary.

Canteen: Students eat lunch at the Canteen which is purpose-built. The Canteen is run by Newco Catering and Logistics Limited. The menu is varied and nutritious. No pork is served.

Bus Service: The school has two air-conditioned and well-maintained vans. Both vans are fitted with seat belts and safety protocols are duly observed at all times. The buses are used to transport some students to and from school.
