International Week

It was a fantastic week at ISA as we celebrated International Week! This special event provided an opportunity for our students to explore different countries and cultures while also deepening their appreciation for Ghana. From 17th to 21st March 2025, each class immersed themselves in a unique cultural experience. Early Years explored New Zealand, Year 1 and 2 focused on Luxembourg, Year 3 and 4 studied Tajikistan, Year 5 and 6 learned about Puerto Rico, Year 7 and 8 delved into the culture of Guinea, and Year 9 examined Eswatini.

Highlights of the Week

Monday, 17th March – Global Classroom
The week began with a Global Classroom, where students created their own DIY “passports” and embarked on a journey of discovery. They explored the geography, history, and famous figures of their assigned countries in preparation for the grand country booth exhibition on Friday.

Famous Landmark Challenge
Throughout the week, students participated in a Famous Landmark Challenge. In the library, LEGO stations were set up for students to build iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower (France), the Great Wall of China (China), the Pyramids (Egypt), and the Sydney Opera House (Australia). Additionally, students decorated the currencies of their assigned countries.

Tuesday, 18th March – International Sports Day
We showcased our love for sports by playing traditional sports from different countries: Cricket from India, Sepak Takraw from Southeast Asia, Bocce Ball from Italy and Sack race from Ghana. We also enjoyed a tug of peace. Everyone came to school in jerseys and sportswear from different countries.

Wednesday, 19th March – French Day
The school transformed into a French cultural hub! The day began with an assembly at the Forecourt, and students dressed in the colours of the Tricolore, the French flag. They enjoyed a selection of French games, poems, music, and dance, immersing themselves in the beauty of the French language and traditions.

Thursday, 20th March – Ghana Day
A day dedicated to celebrating our homeland! Students dressed in traditional attire representing different regions of Ghana and participated in a vibrant fashion show. A quiz about Ghana tested their knowledge, and the day concluded with a delicious traditional Ghanaian lunch. A photo booth was also set up to capture the special moments.

Friday, 21st March – Flag Dress-Up & Country Booths
The grand finale saw students dressed in the colors of their respective country’s flag. They “traveled” to different countries set up in classrooms, collecting stamps in their passports. Each classroom was decorated with artifacts, flags, pictures, cultural symbols, and a focus on the UNSDG (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal) relevant to that country. Two student leaders in each booth presented key facts and cultural highlights, creating a truly immersive experience.

International Week at ISA was a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity, learning, and global citizenship. It reinforced our commitment to fostering a global perspective among our students while honouring our Ghanaian roots. We look forward to another exciting International Week next year!
