From 13th to 15th February 2025, eleven Year 7 to Year 9 students and two teachers attended the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) Global Issues Service Summit in Kampala, Uganda. The annual summit is an immersive experience aimed at empowering students to explore global challenges, promote sustainable solutions, and take action. This year’s event was hosted by the International School of Uganda (ISU), and the theme, “Kola Kati” (meaning “act now” in Luganda), captured the spirit of urgency behind the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The group departed MKV on 11th February, stopped briefly at the University of Ghana before heading to Kampala. Upon arrival, they explored the city and visited landmarks such as the Gaddafi Mosque and Kampala Palace.
Students participated in service-learning projects across Kampala, tackling issues such as gender equality, climate action, and sustainable development. They engaged in hands-on activities like crafting reusable sanitary pads with the Gejja Women Foundation, constructing eco-friendly structures from waste bottles, and supporting local schools. Back at ISU, students enjoyed a visit to the craft market for souvenirs.
The final day featured student-led workshops and service project exhibitions, with a closing dinner celebrating their efforts. Upon returning to ISA, students shared an inspiring presentation, reflecting on their journey and the meaningful work they contributed to. Their projects demonstrated the lasting impact of their efforts. We hope they continue sharing their knowledge and inspiring fellow ISA students to adopt similar initiatives within our community.
