CIS Accreditation: A Collective Achievement (On Behalf of ISA Board)

We are thrilled to announce that the International School of Ahafo (ISA) has now received Council of International Schools (CIS) accreditation.

After obtaining CIS Membership in May 2019, the school engaged in a rigorous preparatory process and self-evaluation, culminating in an accreditation visit that assessed all aspects of school life. This process is part of CIS International Accreditation, a comprehensive school-wide evaluation that affirms a school’s commitment to high-quality international education. It examines leadership, teaching, student wellbeing, and global citizenship while providing guidance for continuous improvement. Achieving CIS accreditation demonstrates that a school delivers on its promises, plans strategically for the future, and prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to thrive as global citizens.

We are honoured to be the fourth CIS-accredited school in the country and the only one in Ghana’s Middle Belt. The other schools are Ghana International School, Lincoln Community School, and International Community School. This milestone belongs to all of us – board, staff, students, parents, alumni, and friends of ISA, past, present, and future.

The road to this moment has not been easy. In 2014, our school faced the very real possibility of closure. At that critical point, a small but courageous group of parents, united by their belief in the value of this school and their devotion to their children’s education, rallied together to reimagine and keep it open. In 2015, the school was re-established with renewed purpose: new leadership, new staff, a new curriculum, and a bold vision to grow as an independent international school serving both expatriate and local families in MKV. It was a leap of faith and CIS accreditation stands as a living testament to their vision and steadfast resolve.

What we have achieved in remote Ahafo is truly remarkable and worthy of celebration. This success has been made possible by the sustained effort of every member of our school community.  On behalf of the Board, I extend our sincere gratitude to each and every one of you.

We are especially thankful to Newmont Ghana, whose vision, leadership, and ongoing support have seen the foundation of this school. As our sole financier, Newmont’s commitment has enabled the school not only to remain open but also to grow, evolve, and thrive. What began as a school for the children of senior managers in MKV remains employee-focused and has since expanded to welcome the children of all employees. This accreditation reflects Newmont’s ongoing dedication to providing high-quality education for its employees’ families.

We are grateful to the consultants who worked with us to restructure and strengthen the school, whose guidance and support were invaluable and played a key role in shaping our school’s success.  We also acknowledge the dedication and stewardship of our past and present Board members, whose leadership, governance, and service have guided the school through change and growth.

  • To our Staff: thank you for your professionalism, resilience, and belief in our students
  • To our Former Staff: thank you for the foundation you laid and the lives you shaped and the enduring legacy of your service
  • To our Students and Alumni: you are the heart of this school and the reason the work matters
  • To our Parents, past and present: thank you for your trust, partnership, and unwavering support
  • To Friends of ISA and the wider Community: thank you for standing with us and believing in what this school represents

CIS accreditation fills us with pride, humility, and profound appreciation. Inspired by this achievement, we look ahead with confidence, committed to continuous growth as we work toward re-accreditation in five years.  Together as a community, we will continue to build a school that reflects our shared values and aspirations.
