The Board of International School of Ahafo is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Roy James Murray as the new Principal with effect from 1st August 2026. The search was conducted by RS-Academics Limited, a global executive search and consultancy firm working exclusively with schools for more than two decades.
Dr. Murray is a distinguished educational leader with over 27 years of international experience spanning the Carribean, United Kingdom, Canada and China. His life and career trajectory is almost as unique as ISA’s. Although born in Scotland, he grew up in central Jamaica and Grand Cayman. This experience fostered adaptability, which he has carried throughout his life and career across six countries, three continents and a range of educational settings. He brings extensive expertise in globally recognised curricula, including the Scottish and English National Curricula, the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge. As a Designated Safeguarding Lead, he is adept at managing complex pastoral and child-protection matters. He also has a strong record of strategic leadership, high-quality teaching and learning, and inclusive educational practice.
Dr. Murray holds a PhD in History, alongside qualifications in Politics and Heritage Studies from institutions in Canada, the Caribbean and the UK. His research interests span Caribbean history, particularly slavery, emancipation, settlement history, and post-emancipation society in the Cayman Islands and the wider Caribbean. His work explores issues of cultural identity, historical memory, and social justice. Over the course of his career, he has researched and written extensively in these areas through academic publications, conference presentations and public engagement initiatives. Some of his hobbies include research, cycling, gym, reading, travelling, and staying connected with friends and family worldwide.
The Board looks forward to working with Dr. Murray as he helps shape the next stage of ISA’s growth and development.
