Date: 19 Mar 2023 // By: Rita Dzide-Tei

Book Week was from 7th to 10th March, 2023  and we spent the time celebrating books and nurturing a lifelong love for books and reading. The theme for this year's Book Week was Read.Grow.Inspire. The theme was masterly brought to life throughout the week.

One of the highlights of the week was the design of Book Covers. Students were tasked to create a book cover with a title, author, a picture that captures an dea in the book, a blurb on the back cover, a comment or review by a critic that appeared in a newspaper, ISBN and any other relevant information that enhances the book cover. There was such an impressive spread of bookcovers and everyone was excited about their handiwork.Book covers

The Early Years produced an original bookmark for everyone in the school. One thing you always need if you read - a good bookmark. It will be easier to keep track of the pages in our next book.

On Friday, we had a Book Week Assembly and students came dressed in their favourite book character costumes.

Grace book characters

The book characters who visited were spectacular. We admired everyone’s creativity and were so impressed with the performances which highlighted the joy and importance of reading and books. We had original plays, songs, poems, a fabulous rap song and a wonderful reenactment of Malala’s story. We even had a performance of an amazing original song, performed by Opoku Frimpong Boateng. We are certain it could be a big hit if we could get it out into the world! Well done to all of our students!

After the assembly, parent and volunteers read with various classes in order for our learners in Nursery to Year 4 to experience different voices in class. Some volunteers also met Year 5 to 9 students to read with them and to share their experiences.

Mrs. Asakpo

A big thank you to our Book Week committee for organising the week - Mr. Yaotse, Ms. Kwamifoli, Ms. Hagan and Ms. Abu. A huge thank you to the Parents and Friends who joined us to read stories with the children. It was such a treat to have our visitors in the school.
