Snake Safety Assembly
Date: 14 Mar 2022 //
By: Rita Dzide-Tei
For our assembly on Friday, 11th March 2022, Dr. Alfred Poku, the Chief Medical Officer from the ISOS Clinic, gave an excellent presentation about snake safety to the students and staff. He told us what to do if we see a snake and also what to do if we are bitten. We learnt that there are different types of venom and they affect the body in different ways. We also heard about anti venoms and how and when they are used.
The important things to take away from the presentation:
- If you see a snake, do not approach it or play with it. If it is in the distance, move slowly away from it.
- If it is close, stay very still.
- If a snake sees a sudden movement, it will attack.
- Call Emergency, if someone is bitten, or spat on by a snake.
- If a snake is seen, it should be reported and the snake team will deal with it.
We would like to thank Dr. Poku for giving this valuable presentation and for answering the many questions that came
from our students. Next week, the medical team will also be providing training for a number of staff on how to deal with
medical issues that might arise in theschool.
