Community Service – Training of Local Teachers on Early Years Play-based learning

On Tuesday, 26th November 2024, three of our teachers presented an interactive workshop on Early Years Play-based learning to a large group of local teachers. This was organised through the Asutifi North Education Directorate and is one of the many ways that ISA staff can share their knowledge with teachers in the local community. The objective of the workshop was to equip participants with effective strategies for implementing play-based learning in the classroom, fostering creativity, critical thinking and holistic development in young learners.

This is a reflection from the teachers who led the workshops:

Play is the heart of Early learning, and this belief inspired our workshop for the Kindergarten teachers in the Ahafo Kenyasi No. 1 & 2 community. The Early Childhood teachers in the community were excited to discover that effective teaching and learning resources do not need to be expensive. With just cardboard and markers, we were able to improvise versatile resources that could be used across all learning areas. Teachers embraced and were enthusiastic about how these simple materials can be used creatively. We also explored how songs and hands-on activities can transform lessons into joyful and engaging experiences for learners. Hopefully, all participants left the workshop with clear goals, new ideas and renewed confidence to implement play-based learning in their classrooms. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our Principal and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the opportunity to facilitate this workshop.”
